The first quarter of 2025 is complete, and what a season it’s been! A big thank you to all the contributors who showed up, built, supported, and pushed Nym forward. This report is a celebration of what we’ve achieved together and a glimpse into what’s ahead. From key wins to new initiatives, here’s what the Nym community accomplished during the NSL Winter Season.

Squad Wealth Fund Update

The Squad Wealth Fund (SWF) is the community’s treasury. It funds development projects, community missions, moderation, meet-ups and more. Here is how it works:

Every season the Nym core team treasury stakes NYM tokens on community operated mix nodes as part of the Nym Delegations Program. This helps bootstrap new Nym nodes as well as earn rewards for the community.

At the end of each season, staking rewards are redeemed and added to the Squad Wealth Fund (SWF), which is the main source of funding for Nym community projects, development and growth.

The Nym community can apply for grants and report contributions here on the Nym forum.

Contributors receive rewards from the Squad Wealth Fund and a report such as the one you are looking at is generated.

Income and spending
Income
This Winter, the Squad Wealth Fund reached new heights. Staking rewards rose from 741k NYM in Fall to 943k NYM this season - an increase of 27%, and the largest single-season inflow to date. This growth reflects the full effect of the expanded Nym Delegations Program budget, which was scaled from 40 million to 70 million NYM in the previous season. With most of the 70 million delegated throughout the season, Winter saw the program operate close to its new full capacity for the first time.
Spending
Spending this season totaled 500k NYM, a moderate increase from the Fall Season. This reflects a steady pace of contributor activity across the Nym ecosystem, including continued support for long-term builder projects and newly funded community initiatives. As in previous seasons, a detailed breakdown of all grants and spending categories will follow in the sections below.
Balance and reserves
After expenses, the Squad Wealth Fund closed the Winter Season with a net positive balance of 443k NYM. This brings the community treasury to a new milestone: a total balance of over 1.4 million NYM.
Crossing the 1 million mark last season was already significant, and growing the warchest by another 443k NYM this Winter underscores just how far the Nym Squad League has come. The Fund is now in its strongest position yet, ready to fuel even more ambitious projects and initiatives in the seasons ahead.

Mixnet Visualization
Collaboration between Tupinymquim and Rawbox squads , @supermeia and @oleksky
What does the Nym mixnet actually look like in action? Rawbox developed a visualization framework to help answer that question. Tupinymquim then took it public at the NymVPN launch event to show the world what traffic patterns look like with and without the mixnet. This collaboration brought the magic of Nym to life in a whole new way!
NymChat
Privacy-first messaging, powered by the mixnet by @code-zm
NymChat reached MVP stage this season, offering bulletproof privacy through the Nym mixnet and SURBs. Funded by an NSL grant, the app shows the potential for real-time communication that resists surveillance at the metadata level.
Nymesis
Next-level analytics for node runners and stakers
by @bumpmeup and @craftdome
Nymesis delivers in-depth stats and insights not found anywhere else, tailored for the operator community. This Winter Season saw its first test release - strong enough to secure a full NSL grant for the Spring season. Expect big things!

Changes to the Nym Squad League
The Nym Squad League has just completed its 4th full season (not counting Season 0, the pilot). That means NSL has officially finished its first full year out of beta, a major milestone! With over 300 contributions logged this year, we’ve learned a lot. As a result, we’re making a number of changes and improvements to the NSL framework.
Introducing the NSL Council
To help things move faster and more smoothly, we’re setting up a new NSL Council.
The council will meet on a weekly or biweekly basis to make key decisions, mostly about grant proposals, reward amounts, and other program updates.
The council will consist of members of the Nym team, and community contributors can apply to join it. If you’re a proven and active NSL contributor who wants to represent the community and have a say in how things run, this is your chance!

Monthly Payments
NSL originally used quarterly payments, aligned with the seasonal schedule. But this has proven suboptimal for two reasons:

Rewards of up to 400–500k NYM were distributed all at once. While the community has been great about not dumping tokens, some people raised concerns about the volume.

More importantly, some contributors had to wait a long time to receive their rewards.
To fix this, NSL will now move to monthly payments. This means faster payouts and a more balanced distribution of payments over the year.
Note: for ongoing grants such as decentralized community management and translations, you will have to report your progress on a monthly basis to receive payment with the same cadence. If you prefer to report once a quarter, you can do so and continue receiving your grant payments on quarterly basis.
Goodbye Ranks
When NSL launched, we introduced a rank system: Nymster, Nymja, and Shinobi. These ranks came with perks, like only Nymja and Shinobi being eligible for grants.
Over time, we changed the rules to make grants open to everyone, and with that, the ranks lost their original purpose.
We’ll keep the titles on Discord and elsewhere for recognition and fun, but they’ll no longer affect decisions, rewards, or anything else. No more promotions either.
Revamped Season Reports
From now on, all NSL season reports will be posted directly on the forum, instead of shared as PDFs (including this one).
Why?

- You can interact, ask questions, and leave comments
Reports will also be shorter and more focused going forward, making it easier for everyone to stay up to date without too much mumbo jumbo.
