Strange message in the Android app

Yesterday, when I opened an app, I saw a pop-up saying something along these lines:

Help improve your connection speed

Improve now (the button)

I pressed the button and connected (the connection was nearly instant), then went to the settings to check what had changed and found that nothing had changed; all settings were left as they were before.

So what exactly did it change?

never get messages like this , sounds like an malware version

where did u get ur version ?

From F-Droid, version 2026.11.3.

I suppose it might have something to do with DNS (though I’m unsure how), because I changed the DNS settings in Nym shortly before (namely, set up custom DNS IPs and turned the feature on, then disconnected and reconnected by hand, because on desktop it required reconnecting for DNS settings to apply, so I decided to do this on the phone for good measure). Other than that, I have no clue what it might be.

It was not a pop-up per se, but rather a message in the app’s UI: a white block with black text and a button over the three rings and below the Nym logo. It had a circled “i” icon on the top left side of it.

Just saw this post and decided to make a note. There is a screenshot of an error message there. The block with the message I got in the app looks exactly the same (with different text and dimensions, of course), but white.

tried to reproduce this on my android with an custom dns entry from cloudflare: 1.1.1.1
on fastmode

no message appeared , with dns server ure using ?

and was ur download source the fdroid app `

I set these up (it’s NextDNS) because I had issues with Quad9 (which appears to be Nym’s default DNS provider):

45.90.28.0

2a07:a8c0::

45.90.30.0

2a07:a8c1::

Yes, I installed the app from the F-Droid app and its default repository.

Thank you for your assistance.

did u try to exclude ipv6 ?
which mode u using ?

on my android these dns seems to work, try to exclude ur environment with create an hotspot on an mobile phone or sth else like that.

I did not try to exclude IPv6 for either DNS or VPN in general (the latter is impossible, at least for me, on Android - there’s no such toggle in settings).

I use Fast mode.

I tried mobile data and a hotspot from another phone; it didn’t prompt the appearance of the message.

so the issue seems on ur environment not on the nym client it self

just remove the 2 dns entries on custom dns settings on the nym Client:

2a07:a8c0::

2a07:a8c1::

I dug into the code, and it seems like pressing “Improve now” should open a dialog that lets you enable network stats. The thing is, it didn’t open for some reason, so that may be a bug that developers might want to look into. Maybe @salazar could tell them about it.

I think that DNS is not the culprit after all. I sort of remember disabling network stats lately, so my guess is that the app noticed that this feature is disabled and tried to convince me to enable it in a weird way.

Anyway, thank you, @moejoe, for your help - I really appreciate it!
