Lecture topic: Descentralized Science and Privacy: Protection of data and metadata
Venue: Biological Sciences Faculty of BUAP (Benemerita Autonomous University of Puebla)
As part of Biologist Day, a series of academic activities and lectures were held at the faculty. My lecture was about the importance of privacy and data and metadata protection in science, I highlighted the importance of safeguarding sensitive information in scientific research, including personal data, research records, geographic locations, and unpublished results. I explained what data and metadata are and give examples in the context of science, emphasizing that in today’s digital world, protecting metadata is essential to ensure the integrity and security of scientific information. I reccommended NymVPN as a practical measure to enhance online privacy, and explained how it works and the advantages it has compared to traditional VPNs. The session lasted around 1 hour.
Additionally, students from the faculty presented their projects.
Privacy is also very important in fields such as science and research; it is important to highlight and raise awareness about the significance of privacy and data and metadata protection within the scientific community.
