With the Magura and Crunch releases, major updates were introduced to the Nym mixnet:
Magura Highlights
- Emission Changes: 2% of mixmining rewards now go to 5 active node layers (up from 3), with gateways rewarded algorithmically to encourage more options for users.
- Binary Upgrade: Operators must use the new Nym binary for mixnode or gateway mode. Gateways now require stakes for active set inclusion.
- Active Set Criteria: A new formula (config score × stake × performance^20) prioritizes up-to-date nodes, removing outdated ones.
- Migration Requirement: Operators must migrate to Nym Node via Nym Wallet for rewards.
- Terms Compliance: Operators must agree they do not log user data.
Crunch Highlights
- Outdated Node Penalization: A new scoring system prioritizes updated nodes, with lower scores for outdated ones. Reward set selection is based on scores, ensuring fairness and up-to-date participation.
Delegation and Service Grant Program Impact
As program mentors:
- Nearly all Service Grant nodes (gateways) received delegations.
- Oversaturated nodes lost their delegation in DP, and replaced by new operators, keeping the network fresh and aligned with program goals.
- Operators are encouraged to graduate by maintaining performance and attracting external delegations.
Looking Ahead
- Gateways receiving delegations are expected to graduate like mixnodes, supporting a successful NymVPN launch.
- Thanks to all operators who updated on time, ensuring strong mixnet support.
