Charlotte Privacy Meetup - Great Wagon Road Distilling
Event Date: July 26, 2025
Location: 610 Anderson Street, Charlotte, NC
Overview
On July 26th, 2025, WebWipe hosted a Privacy pop up event at Great Wagon Road Distilling in Charlotte, North Carolina. This has been the 4th privacy event WebWipe’s done around the country but only the second one that had Nym and NymVPN as a topic. The first one was held in May at Pubkey. We collaborated with WebWipe to bring the Nym presentation to their event.
Event Highlights
The Event was sponsored by Cake Wallet. A representative of Cake Wallet also presented on their wallet and privacy ecosystem. 25 people attended the event. The BTC Charlotte community were helpful in getting the word out about the event. The event ran from 6-10 pm, and presentations began at 7 pm. Many of us stayed after the event wrapped up until the bar until closed. There were Nym stickers and a throwback NYM t-shirt for one lucky attendee. The NymVPN presentation opened up the night!

topics covered in the Nym presentation
- How the internet works
- Nym vs. Tor vs. VPNs
- What is a mixnet(deeper dive)
- Nym’s Architecture - Gateways and Mix Nodes
- NymVPN Features
- Private payments for NymVPN
- Downloading NymVPN and Early Bird Special
The presentation was 20 minutes and I covered a large amount of material from internet architecture to how NymVPN solves privacy issues for web-browsing. I’ve attached a few images from the presentation below.
Impacts and Outcomes
- Almost 100% of the crowd knew what a VPN was, and more than half having used a VPN or Tor.
- One attendee arrived with a NymVPN shirt on that they got at Bitcoin 2025 in Las Vegas, which was very cool too see.
- Prior to the presentation one attendee was asking about NymVPN but didn’t think a blockchain was needed. He had never heard of Nym so I explained as best as possible and said more would be answered in the presentation.
- The crowds response was well received. There were a few questions from the crowd. They asked questions such as:
- If they install NymVPN on a router, will all their traffic be protected?
- Speed issues? Wireguard versus mixnet mode
- How do the zk-credentials work? And why do they need anonymized identity?
There will be more meetups we join WebWipe for across the US. We’ll share next locations on the forum. We hope to see you there
