Tokumai - Private AI over the mixnet

Dear NYM-Community,

sorry for the duplicate post but we rebranded ScrambleAI to “tokumai” which is now our final name for our anonymous AI client over the NYM mixnet. We are now live with our latest version (0.5.6 as of time of writing) which you can all get here:

We are currently offering clients for Mac, Linux, Windows, Android (apk) and iOS (Apple Testflight) all available through the website.

We are currently in beta testing which means you can either buy credits using CreditCard/ApplePay/GooglePay or using an invite code which gives you 1$ (100k TOKU credits) worth of credit. Please reach out to me directly through the NYM Matrix channel (@wunderbaer) for your personal code. Be aware that no matter which method you chose your chats are always unlikable to your payment or real life identitiy.

Please let me know what you think - your feedback is highly appreciated!

Cheers Wunderbaer

Good morning,

happy to hear you are still interested. You would usually transfer your account simply with the mnemonic phrase. This will also restore all session balance (not the balance held on the device). But since we changed the branding also server will not accept scrambleAI clients anymore, so the regular migration method will not work. This is a one-time issue with the rebrand, sorry for the inconvenience.

I am happy to provide you with a fresh tokumai invite code - hit me up in Matrix!

Thanks Wunderbaer

Well done :+1: Smooth app :ok_hand:

Dear @skywave thank you very much, happy to hear you like it!

We just released 0.6.5 which contains breaking changes so an update of the client is necessary. All plattforms are available on www.tokumai.com - iOS Testflight is under review at Apple and will be available shortly!

Please let me know if you experience any issues with the migration, I am here to support!

Alright. I bought some TOKU - will they stay with my account after this update?

Yes, they should be exactly the same. If you experience any issues please let me know!

OK - update installed - I was a bit unsure if I should tick ‘delete data’ (I think that’s what it said?) - so I didn’t tick it.
After opening the app and selecting Recovery - I entered the 24 word phrase.
A little while later I saw that the TOKU had been reduced with 200,000 - and that I could request 100,000 back - which I did - but the balance then ended up 100,000 less than what I bought this morning.
I have not use the app at all, in the meantime.

That’s actually the perfect outcome - but don’t worry and let me explain as it is part of the privacy structure we implemented!

100k TOKU are exactly 1$ worth of AI chat credits and we use this as the standard sized bucket for every client. So when you buy e.g. 500k for 5$ it will create 5 ticket books worth of 100k each for you to use in chat prompts and stores them in your account. It then withdraws one bucket only. Once this bucket is about to run dry it will automatically withdraw the next 1$/100k chunk into your balance - and so on. This is where the link between your identity and your chat prompts fully breaks because this transforms your credits into unlikable Coconut credentials.

So from there the tokumai server can only see that somebody is spending valid Coconut tickets but has cryptographically no way to connect purchases and credentials. And because every single user is using exactly the same 1$ chunks it’s all blended together (NYM calls this: “Privacy loves company” - it’s the same concept)

Now there is one tradeoff for this privacy: The mnemonic can only restore balance in your account, not the balance in your chat bucket. So in your case 100k TOKU was transferred internally hence the restore only brought back X minus 100k. This is known an intentional (also the app warns you about it). In a normal world (without breaking changes on our end) it’s the user’s responsibility to make sure the money doesn’t get lost. Think about it like your balance in the bank (your account - recoverable by your mnemonic) and cash you withdrew from an ATM (cash in your purse - when you loose the purse, it’s gone). There is a function in the app though that transfers your cash back into your account for when you e.g. intentionally switch your device. But with the breaking update you had no chance to do that - so it’s our fault

This said I will send you an invite code worth exactly 1$/100k TOKU which you can redeem under “Buy credit” and you should be back to your total balance.

Hope this explanation makes sense? And again, thank you very much for giving me the feedback - much appreciated!

Alrighty - thank you for the explanation. I’ll have to re-read it to try understand it clearly :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
And thank you for the kind refund :ok_hand:

My pleasure!

If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are still in beta phase here and I am happy to collect as much feedback as possible! And one of the most important topics is the user experience - especially with upgrades (hopefully no more breaking updates in the future). Privacy is always a trade off with comfort/user experience but ironing it out as much as possible is the main goal…

Have a good evening,

Wunderbaer
