Subject: Mac Killswitch Issue - Blocks Internet After Disconnect (March/April 2026) - Has This Been Fixed?

Hi Nym team and community,

I used NymVPN as my daily driver VPN on Mac back in March/April 2026 but ran into a significant issue with the killswitch that made it unusable for my workflow. I’m considering giving it another try but wanted to check if this has been addressed.

The Issue:
When I disconnected from NymVPN or quit the app, the killswitch would remain active and block all internet traffic. Even force-quitting the app didn’t restore connectivity. I had to manually flush the firewall rules via terminal:

sudo pfctl -a nym -F rules

sudo pfctl -d

Or in some cases, wipe network plists and reboot to fully recover.

My Use Case:
I was using NymVPN as my primary VPN, but I occasionally need to turn it off for specific workflows - for example, when using Blackmagic Cloud for DaVinci Resolve, or accessing certain services that don’t work well through VPN. The killswitch being hardcoded ON with no toggle meant that temporarily disconnecting would strand me offline.

The problem got worse when I tried to switch to ProtonVPN temporarily just to have a working VPN connection - the Nym killswitch was still blocking all traffic, so I couldn’t even get Proton to connect.

Questions:

  1. Has this killswitch behavior been fixed in recent updates?

  2. Is there now a way to toggle the killswitch off on macOS?

  3. Has anyone else experienced this specific issue where the killswitch blocks traffic even after disconnecting?

I love Nym and use it on my Graphene Pixel daily with no issues. I appreciate any help that can be given.

Thanks

  1. Should be. I’m unable to reproduce this on my end. If NymVPN is not attempting to connect, it should let traffic through without killswitch interfering
  2. Not currently

Happy to send you a free pass or you can also get a 30-day refund if you’re not happy with the service.

@salazar Thanks for your help. So I went ahead and downloaded the most recent installer for Mac, and I got everything installed. I basically was able to get everything to work, and I’m not having the kill switch issue anymore. But then at a certain point, even though I had already given my credentials successfully and was logged in, it hit a point where it needed to re-verify the credentials. It did that, and then it said that it failed, so I stopped it and uninstalled it and reinstalled it. But now every time that I try to start it back up, when I put in my seed phrase, it thinks that I don’t have an active plan. But then, when I click to go and buy an active plan or to check on my account, when I check on my account, it shows that I have paid for it. And when I click buy the active plan, it still will show, that I can purchase it, but then, when I click on the profile icon at first says “I don’t have an account,” and then a few seconds later, it loads and then says “I have an account.” And even looking at Nym from the VPN page when I click the gear icon under Account and Devices, it says “requesting ZK NYMS.” So I’m not really sure what exactly is going on there, but it was working and now it’s not. So a different issue haha.

Unable to reproduce this again on my end

  1. Can you check the NymVPN account ID you see in Settings > Account? It should be same like the one you have on the website (what you bought the plan for)
  2. Do a clean reinstall of the app and make sure you have the latest v2026.11.0
  3. If the issue persists, you can file a bug report via support.nym.com (please include logs too if possible)
