Who participated?
The CPDP is the largest data protection event in Latin America and took place on June 17 and 18, at Rio de Janeiro.
Through Daniel Vazquez, I, psydenst, was nominated to represent Nym at this event. I feel very grateful to be able to take part in such a high-profile event.
The audience consisted of politicians, lawyers, students and government employees interested in and/or specialized in data privacy.
What was the reaction of the audience?
As the most technical person on the panel, the audience, mostly made up of people with a legal background, was introduced to the topic of structural metadata leakage in the current internet infrastructure for the first time with my talk. Interest was therefore high.
Is this a regular event?
This event takes place every year.
How do you plan to follow-up with this audience?
Being present at national and international data privacy events taking place in Brazil, consolidating this increasingly large and diverse network of TupiNymQuim friends.
How did the activity help Nym community grow?
I believe a central contact has been made with Thiago Moraes. He was one of the panelist, being the Coordinator of Innovation and Research at the Brazilian Data Protection Authority (ANPD), the main Brazilian institution in charge of data privacy in the country, who was very interested in Nym and mixnet technology in the conversation we had after the panel.
I also had a good exchange with Maria Badillo, from the Future of Privacy Forum, who was mediating the panel. She was very enthusiastic about the Nym project in conversations prior to the panel and also during the event.
Overview:
Even though it was before lunchtime, the auditorium was full. I gave a presentation on Nym and why the internet is broken, and got good feedback from the audience afterwards. Being an international event and being broadcast, the panel and debate were all in English.
I was glad to represent Nym at such a big event

obs:
We couldn’t get extra tickets for TupiNymQuim members (they were too expensive), so I wasn’t able to record the event properly as I was on my own.
In addition to the photo, however, I recorded the session, in case you want to follow along with the audio:
