Please note that everything written below is merely a series of thoughts, at times critical and potentially unpopular. The purpose is to spark ideas, provoke counterarguments, and encourage out-of-the-box thinking among those who read this and care about Nym’s future. I also hope that, in this way, I can somewhat expand the scope of discussion.
It seems to me that over the past few years, Nym has done quite a lot to identify and engage genuinely loyal and productive members of its community from within the broader crypto space.
However, a significant percentage of participants in Nym channels—and the crypto community as a whole—are primarily focused on quick and substantial profits. This is evidenced by the past craze around NFTs and the current obsession with meme coins.
Now, here’s the harsh truth everyone knows but avoids discussing: a considerable number of people in the crypto community dislike, distrust, or even hate Nym. And the only thing that will change their minds is exponential growth in the token’s price. They don’t care about contests, events, or even the technology. There’s a well-known quote: “You can’t keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.” We don’t need to try to make these people love Nym. If the project becomes successful, they’ll immediately change their stance and become die-hard believers.
The flip side of this unpleasant truth is that Nym has managed to cultivate a strong and passionate core community that truly cares about the project, and that is incredibly valuable.
For this reason, I believe it’s crucial to preserve the existing community and grow it—not by persuading those who are uninterested or indifferent, but by attracting entirely new participants from outside the crypto world. A significant influx of Web2 users, according to Nym’s tokenomics, will inevitably drive up the token’s price, thereby winning back the approval of those I mentioned earlier.
Thus, my suggestion is to popularize NymVPN specifically in what we call the “real world,” not within the crypto space. How exactly should this be done? That’s the next question—one I can’t confidently answer since I don’t consider myself an expert in this area. However, I’m sure Nym has the people and resources to figure this out.
To be clear, this doesn’t mean we should completely ignore the crypto world. On the contrary, it’s essential to retain and strengthen the connection with loyal participants. Grants, events, quizzes, and similar initiatives should remain in place. When new users unfamiliar with crypto eventually join, they’ll see the results of the efforts made by earlier contributors.
