Please tell me this was a scammer

I was trying to set up a node and ran into some issues. My node is not showing online despite setting it up as shown in the docs (Ubuntu rasp pi5) , it shows active, I bonded the required amount as stated and it never shows active on harbour, But does show active on spectre (despite showing 0 uptime).

Logs on the server dont indicate any issue, not seeing what the problem could be.

I reached out to the node operator telegram chat and someone named salazar reached out and offered to help. There was quite a bit of back and forth, he insisted this was because my wallet is not “active” and needed at least $1k worth of transactions in order to be legit. Everything he said and did sounded like a scam, despite him being an admin in the group. I am praying that this was a scammer, and that you do not need a wallet with $1k worth of transactions simply to be involved in this project. This person insisted I use “NYM Vault” (which is not in the docs), to check if my wallet is active and “fix API issues” I planned on running a residential node which was apparently requested on the forums.

I make this thread to say, if this is really true, this is just gatekeeping and says a lot about the project. I hope it is false, because I and others who have the skills and interest to contribute to this project will be turned away simply for not having $1k to throw at crypto. Looking to be told I am wrong here.

They’re scammers - always use the official group to communicate (Telegram: View @nymchan)

I even tagged you to notify you about the scammers that were going to DM you (here). This is a common pitfall of having telegram public groups. We try to circulate PSAs like this one in the chat regularly.

Multiple people reached out to me as you said, someone spoofed your exact profile and I checked that you were admin so I talked to them. Luckily nothing came of it, when they told me I needed 1k minimum I knew it was not right. I will just stay off of telegram, I don’t like it anyways for this exact reason. Will stay on the forums instead.

In that case, Looking for some assistance…

Feel free to send your questions here too

Currently this is what I am running into. I have 124 NYM, bonding 100.

Due to my stupidy I was a victim of a scammer in the Nym Telegram channel too, a while ago, when reaching out to the #Support channel. While the Nym Group bot always warns about scammers, I am really wondering if this makes a lot of sense to continue running a support channel on Telegram, as scammers will continue in your groups, I strongly assume. Why not make support not only official on nym.com, this would free your time too @salazar as you would not have to look in this channel, well just a thought, which makes hopefully sense and would prevent further scams.

Are you currently using the latest version of the Nym wallet?

Yes, Version 1.2.19

Would it make sense to make another wallet, move my NYM there, and then bond from that address? I had used this one previously before.

Are you trying to bond a new node using the same wallet address? That’s not possible at the moment.

Yes, ok let me make a new one. Thanks for confirming.
