| NIP-5 | Update Governance Quorum from 30% to 20% or 15% | 2025-12-04 | proposed | standard | serinko, Nym network technical lead & devrel serinko@nymtech.net , Max, Senior devrel max@nymtech.net | Merve , Operator technical mentor merve@nymtech.net , Sudo, Head of community simon.toth@nymtech.net |
NIP-5 proposes to update Nym governance quorum from 30% (current quorum) to 20% or 15% to allow for a more dynamic decision making and less governance overhead for the operator community.
Motivation
The quorum for NIPs to pass operator governance was originally set to be 30% in NIP-1. Thanks to NIP-2 where stake saturation was changed to a quarter of the original saturation, the Nym network has grown in size. As a result it now takes far more nodes to reach quorum. Reducing the current quorum will allow for quicker governance while keeping a similar security standard we proposed in NIP-1.
Proposal to change the quorum
We propose to lower the quorum to 20% or 15%.
Voting options
Voting takes place at Nym Governator. These are the options to choose from:
- YES, 15% - I agree to change quorum to 15%
- YES, 20% - I agree to change quorum to 20%
- NO - I don’t want to change the quorum
Process
If the vote meets needed quorum and one option will have a majority votes (more than any other option), than that option will become the new quorum for the upcoming NIPs.
