Grant Proposal: DAOcidim Project

1. Executive Summary

DAOcidim is an evolution of the citizen‑participation platform Decidim, turning it into an e‑governance system tailored to Web3 communities and, in particular, to the NYM community. The project is split into three progressive phases that introduce Web3 capabilities, anonymous registration via zero‑knowledge proofs, and, ultimately, a fully decentralised and federated architecture.

2. Strategic Objectives

  1. Transparent and auditable governance with cryptographic integrity guarantees.
  2. Privacy and anonymity for members, without giving up legitimacy verification.
  3. Resilience and technological sovereignty through decentralised infrastructure and data.
  4. Compatibility with open standards (OAuth 2.0/OIDC, W3C DID/VC, Cosmos SDK, ActivityPub) and free licences.

3. Scope by Phase

3.1 Phase 1 – Base Decidim Deployment (Weeks 0‑6)

Task Description Deliverables
Installation & hardening Deployment of Decidim 0.30.1 (latest stable) on cloud infrastructure, with SSL, backups and monitoring. Pre‑production and production environments operational.
Branding & UI Customisation of theme, logo, colour palette and typography according to NYM identity. Adapted and approved interface.
Training Administration workshops Recorded videoconferences.
Community modelling Creation of assemblies, operator / rank spaces and a space for the NSL (NYM Squad League). Structure configured.
Forum & votes migration Replacement of forum.nym.com with Decidim’s Debate and Proposal components and migration of key topics; activation of native surveys/voting. Forum and voting active inside DAOcidim.
Support (12 m) Corrective/evolutionary support with a 24‑hour business SLA for one year. Support contract.

Estimated duration: ≈ 1.5 months — 1 Decidim Tech Lead, 1 DevOps.

3.2 Phase 1 – Base deployment (Weeks 0‑6)

  • S1: Provision infrastructure and CI/CD pipeline.
  • S1: Install Decidim 0.30.1, apply hardening and SSL.
  • S2: Visual customisation (branding, UI).
  • S3: Administrator training.
  • S4: Configure processes, assemblies, ranks and permissions.
  • S5: Migrate forum and run pilot votes.
  • S6: Go‑live and start of annual support.
Rol % NYM
Tech Lead Decidim 30% 75.000
DevOps 30% 75.000
Support & maintenance 40% 100.000
Total 100% 250000 NYM

:rocket: We are going to hold & stake all tokens in Squad Nodes.

4. Future phases

Future vision
Phases 2 and 3 are lines of ongoing research and progressive evolution. Their implementation will be refined based on the lessons learned in Phase 1, the maturity of Web3 and decentralised technologies, and validation by the NYM community. This document sets the direction, but the specific details will be defined as R&D advances and resources become available.

Phase 2 – Web3 integration & anonymous voting (future)
At this stage we will transform the platform so that community members can sign in with their NYM wallet, vote privately, and have the weight of each vote reflect the operator’s actual activity (up to a maximum of five votes). For users, the visible outcome will be a more transparent participation process directly linked to the blockchain network, without exposing personal data.

Phase 3 – Decentralisation and federation (future)
We will take things a step further: the platform will no longer rely on a single server but will operate across multiple nodes that share information with one another. This means greater resilience, sovereignty, and the possibility for different sub-communities to run their own instance without losing connection to the rest. The goal is distributed governance, where proposals and results flow freely between nodes and each participant can log in anonymously from any point in the network.

Hello, how will your solution be better than DAODAO?

Hi there, mate. Thanks for your question.

DAOcidim (Decidim + NYM) is better than DaoDAO-Cosmos for governing a community like NYM’s when the goal goes beyond mere “token voting” and calls for a full democratic circuit (deliberation, co-drafted proposals, assemblies, processes and participatory budgets) without forcing everyone to operate on-chain and pay gas at every step.

Specific advantages for NYM

  • Rich deliberation before the vote
NYM’s value lies in its technical and academic community; Decidim provides threaded discussions, iterative proposals, co-drafting and execution follow-up, not just an on-chain “yes/no”.

  • Privacy aligned with NYM’s mission
Integrating mixnet login + ZK proofs prevents exposing the wallet ↔ opinion link—something impossible today in DaoDAO (all activity is public in the explorer).

  • Gradual bridge to Web3
Phase 1 works with Web2 identities → the community can migrate from Discourse without breaking onboarding; Phase 2 adds wallet login and vote weight based on each operator’s node count (beyond DaoDAO’s scope).

  • Federation
DAOcidim’s roadmap lets future groups run their own nodes and ActivityPub synergies, while DaoDAO forces everyone to live on the same chain or “fork” contracts.

  • Institutional reputation
Adopting a platform used by cities and institutions lends legitimacy with regulators and potential institutional partners.

  • Predictable costs
Debating, amending and commenting are free on DAOcidim. Voting via Vocdoni costs < €0.01 per person; in Cosmos the gas depends on the ATOM/JUNO market.

For integral e-governance that is inclusive and privacy-respecting, DAOcidim covers the entire democratic cycle and aligns with NYM’s principles (anonymity, decentralization, data sovereignty).

DaoDAO remains an excellent on-chain financial toolkit; however, it does not replace the deliberative, educational and multi-phase layer required by a broad and diverse community like ours.
