Community call #2612 - Solo AMA: Split Tunneling, Referrals & Mixnet Updates

This week’s call was a laid-back solo AMA session with @sudonym - no guests, just random updates and answering your questions. Plus, the famous Nym quiz!

Quick Updates
Referral Program & Nym Squad League
- The referral program is already live (the “boring part” - refer friends, get free months)
- Next week: new NSL season launches with gamified referral rewards + physical prizes (privacy-focused gadgets, repairable tech)
- Sudo is collecting suggestions for future physical prizes - DM him if you have ideas
“If you have any suggestions for cool tech or devices we could give people for participating, let me know!”
Split Tunneling Progress
- Android & Mac - already available
- Windows - coming this Monday (target)
- Linux - end of April
- iOS - not possible due to OS limitations (no VPN on iOS supports split tunneling)
- Future: 3-way app tunneling - route per-app through ClearNet / Fast Mode (2-hop) / Anonymous Mode (5-hop mixnet)
Mixnet Traffic
- Currently 5-8% of all Nym network traffic is Mixnet
- Slowly increasing thanks to more active devices + Edge Wallet integration (all wallet traffic can now route through Mixnet)
- Major performance improvements coming later this year (video streaming may become possible)
Post-Quantum Crypto
- Coming to both dVPN mode and Mixnet mode fairly soon
- Sudo plans to host a dedicated community call on this topic with an expert
Q&A Highlights
Q: How do you prevent referral farming?
Sudo: “Only activate referrals after purchase can’t be refunded. And other anti-abuse measures I won’t disclose - don’t want to give cheaters an advantage.”
Q: What’s the next big feature the team is working on?
- NymVPN redesign (UI facelift) - community feedback will be crucial
- “One-click” feature (internal name) - stay tuned
Q: When will Lockdown Mode arrive?
“One of the most requested features. Definitely before end of year - I’ll check on exact timeline.”
Q: Is there a free pass program for activists/journalists?
“Not yet formally, but reach out personally or via support ticket. We care about activists and journalists - key groups that need tech like ours.”
Q: What are Nym’s revenue sources besides NymVPN?
“Currently only NymVPN. Future: B2B integrations - large projects integrating the Nym network itself. But NymVPN is our main focus right now.”
Q: When will TON payment be supported?
“TON is the native coin of Telegram ecosystem - would be great to support. Technical complexity varies by crypto, but we’re looking into it. Soon™.”
Q: Is NymVPN becoming a leading indicator of geopolitical events?
Sudo: “VPN use in general is. We’re seeing upticks in censorship reports from Iran and Russia. NymVPN seems to be filling a slot there, especially where censorship resistance is needed.”
Q: Can Nym create a decentralized DNS?
Sudo: “I’m personally rooting for this. DNS is becoming too centralized. But for now, NymVPN is our main focus. Suggest it on the forum!”
Q: Bandwidth limit - how does it work?
Sudo explained the ticket-based system (25 GB tickets per entry gateway). The bandwidth cap is a soft limit - contact support and they’ll reset it, no questions asked (except for a mysterious bug they’re still investigating).
