🗓️ Community call #2608 with Sal “The Agorist”

:spiral_calendar: Community call #2608 with Sal “The Agorist”

Hey Nymsters!

This week’s community call took a sharp turn into politics, philosophy, and the raw reasons why privacy tech exists. We were joined by Sal the Agorist - author, streamer, and long-time crypto-anarchist - for a no-holds-barred conversation with Harry and @sudonym.

Big thanks to everyone who stuck around for this deep one!

:brain: Agorism 101: What is it?
Sal broke down the philosophy that separates agorists from “run-for-office” libertarians.

“Agorism is a disruptive form of entrepreneurship where we focus not only on profits, but also on state disruption.”

The core idea: don’t vote them out, don’t shoot them - make them obsolete. Like Netflix made Blockbuster obsolete. The state’s only real product is money. If we build better money (crypto) and better infrastructure (mixnets), we starve the beast.

Early in the conversation, Sal mentioned Bridgeless, a project that allows wrapping Bitcoin, Solana, and Ethereum on the Zano blockchain using “Confidential Layer”- bringing privacy to previously transparent chains.

:crossed_swords: Geopolitics, Iran, and the “Pedophile Class”
A huge chunk of the call focused on the war in Iran and the Epstein files. Both Harry and Sal agreed that “emergencies” (pandemics, wars) are tools:

  1. Distraction: Epstein disappears from the news the moment bombs drop.
  2. Economics: Printing trillions creates inflation. War burns that excess cash and saves the banking cartel.

Harry shared a personal story about leaving MIT because it felt like a war machine, and later getting screwed by Joi Ito (Media Lab) - which ironically pushed him to double down on cypherpunk tech.

Harry: “I refuse to believe Epstein was just one pervy guy. It’s structural. He was running an intelligence operation. That’s how the elite works.”

:shield: Tech as the Exit
Sal connected his agorist ideas directly to Nym:

  • Edge Wallet partnership: He loves that Nym is integrating with Edge. It makes privacy invisible. Normal people don’t need to understand mixnets; they just click “send”.
  • Tor vs. Nym: Harry explained that Tor is good against a censor (like Iran blocking sites), but weak against a “global passive adversary” (the NSA or Palantir watching everything). Nym is built for that. It’s based on David Chaum’s mixnet ideas - adding fake traffic, mixing packets - to kill metadata.

Harry: “We started Nym because Chainalysis was grabbing IPs from Bitcoin nodes in 2015. Even if the transaction is encrypted, metadata leaks everything. Mixnets fix that.”

:moneybag: Gold vs. Crypto vs. The Fed

:books: Agorist Reading
Sal strongly recommended the article “A Strategy for Pushing Back” by Per Bylund, which breaks down the two components of agorism: local production facilities and peer-to-peer exchange. He also plugged his own book Anti-Politics, which covers real-world examples of agorism in action, including Eastern Europe’s black markets helping bring down the Soviet Union.

:robot: Community Q&A
During the Q&A, Sal and Harry tackled questions on AI vs. war (agreeing war is the greater threat since AI is just a tool for the military-industrial complex), the possibility of the US using crypto for debt reduction (Sal dismissed it as the state co-opting a tool meant to fight it, but insisted the market will ultimately win), and even Sal’s Twitter profile picture - which turned out to be Mac Dre, the legendary rapper. The conversation stayed true to the evening’s theme: technology is a battleground, and the choice is whether it serves the state or the people.

:handshake: Why Agorists & Cypherpunks Align

  • Dual power: Build the parallel economy now. Don’t wait for permission.
  • No more voting: Both Harry and Sudo agreed that “voting out the bad guys” is a fantasy. The structure is the problem.
  • Sal’s closing: “Left or right, it doesn’t matter. The enemy is centralization. We don’t want to paint the prison walls a different color - we want to tear it down.”

Nor Tor or Nym ist hiding client Meta-Data, except the IP address. People can try that out, for example with an ordinary Web Browser, while using EFF’s test site with NymVPN. Remember, an old saying says that people get killed by Meta-Data and not encrypted content. This is one reason why I develop easy to use privacy tools for anti-forensic usage which produce no Meta-Data.
